Mein EFD…es ist schon vorbei

Yes guys…these are my last days in Rostock and I am writing now my last report.

It is not so easy to summarize what happened during this 8 months…that is why I do not know exactly from where I should start.

I am feeling a strange and mixed sensation right now. I am really happy to go back home: I am looking forward to seeing again my family and my friends in Italy, but I know I will miss something that I have here.

I will miss, for example, the feeling to be “free” because you are in one place only for short time. It really lets you engage a lot to meet new people and to get to know new things, what you usually do not do when you are at home. Although I also experienced the dark side of this, because it is not always easy to build really deep relationship with people with whom you got in touch.

Moreover, I am sure I will miss speaking German! I did not have many expectations at the beginning of this EVS but I had one goal: to improve and learn German, and I feel quite satisfied about this. I had the opportunity to attend a good language course, I spoke German every day in the office and of course, just living here helped me a lot!

As regards the project’s side, I got to know and to learn the wide “world” of workcamps…I got the possibility to work and live in an old concentration camp and this was really a good experience for me. I lead two camps and it was great because I met there so many people with different cultures, although it was not always easy to plan, organise and guide these groups of young people.

During office’s time I did not have everyday many tasks to do and sometimes the work was not as good organised as I wanted, but I think I have learned something new from this too…and I enjoyed it also thanks to my EVS‘ mates Gosia and Ania!

The European Voluntary Service is a good opportunity to live abroad. I got it and that is why I am thankful to Kompass e.V. and to NiG e.V.

I was lucky! I spent these months in a really beautiful and unknown town in the North of Germany. Rostock is small, but it offers various possibility to be active. I could see and enjoy the German sea, and believe me: Ostsee ist echt etwas schönes! I saw the beauty there, as well as in the town along the river (my favourite place here), in other small places not far away from here and in other cities in Germany that I visited.

Maybe a kind of experience like this does not seem to be something special because nowadays a lot of young people do it, however for me it was!
Living far from my “natural” place has been good for me and I am proud of myself…although I spent my time only in Germany, “only” 1100 km far away from home.

And…to summarize with something wise: “Nobody knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow”, someone sang…but I will keep on believing, as I have always done, that I will find one way for me!

Tschüss Leute, es war schön hier!

Mach’s gut!!!
